Look At Those Guns: Madonna Packs Heat in Killer Heels
After months of persistent divorce rumors, Material Girl Madonna and soon to be ex Guy Ritchie are calling it quits after almost 8-years of marriage. And now new mumblings suggest the absence of the the one thing that’s as essential as icing on the wedding cake for an celeb hookup–a prenup.
So what’s a girl to do to take attention away from those pesky tabloids that won’t quit speculating about the real reason for the split (Alex Rodgriguez, Kabbalah . . . take your pick) and how much is up for grabs in the divorce lottery? Ah ha, gun shoes! That’ll give them something else to talk about.
Taking a breather from her grueling ‘Sticky & Sweet Tour,’ Madge showed she was ready to fight to keep every nickel of her princely pop fortune — and take on the critics — in a pair of “Miami Vice” shoes with miniature gun heels at the premiere of her movie, Filth & Wisdom (her directorial debut).
Inspired by an image of a gun, Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld had shoe designer Laurence Decade craft the controversial shoe for the label’s 2009 mid-season Cruise collection. While the runway model was made of actual gun casings, the retail version is made of functional plexi.
Adding to the beleaguered popsters woes, a British anti-violence group found the shoes offensive and has labeled Madge “uncaring.” Says Lyn Costello from Mothers Against Murder And Aggression: “I am horrified that Madonna can see these shoes as fashion. Celebrities have a massive part to play and an icon like Madonna should have more sense. “It’s uncaring. Surely she reads the news and realizes that young people are dying every day.”
Evidently Lyn doesn’t get the joke about the visual witticism on the expression “Killer Heels.” Or the pony-tailed one’s deeper sartorial message: Don’t Make War, Make Great Fashion! This season is all about the statement shoe. And the subliminal message Madonna’s shoes are sending to Guy’s lawyer seems pretty clear: Go ahead, make my day.
But, if things turn ugly, Madonna is more than prepared. She’s hired top gun British divorce lawyer Fiona Shackleton — known as “The Steel Magnolia” — whose past clients include Prince Charles in his divorce from Princess Diana, and Paul McCartney in his ”Dynasty” drama-worthy split from Heather Mills.
The gun-toting heels are set to be available at Chanel boutiques worldwide soon for an estimated $2,000. So what do you think of Chanel’s “killer heels: “Fierce or fug?
