Road Tested: Dr. Scholl’s “For Her” High Heel Inserts

high-heels.jpgI have a confession to make:  I love What Not To Wear’s Stacy London.  She’s my TV BFF.  Plus, she loves a pair of high heels even more than I do so what’s not to love?

But as much as I love them, sometimes my heels do not love me.   Like with a boyfriend, you try to make them work despite their flaws — so they might be a smidge too small, they were too cute to leave in the store; plus they were on sale, hello — but despite your best efforts to change them, sadly you come to realize that it’s not to be and you should go your separate ways.  But even as you put them in the back of your closet, you remember the good times and vow that next time, it’ll be different.

Wow, that analogy got away from me a bit . . .

Anyway, as I was nursing my beauty wounds after trying to break in a new pair of heels (a wicked pair by L.A.M.B.), naturally I thought of Stacy (see, there was a point to all of this!). She’s the new pitch woman for Dr. Scholl’s “For Her” High Heels inserts that claim to ease the pain caused by your favorite stilettos. Yes, even the five-inchers that you swore felt like fuzzy slippers when you tried them on in the store. If they’re good enough for her, they’re good enough for moi so I snagged a package at my local CVS.

They have squiggly, squishy gel pads in the ball and heel of the foot, to cushion and take off some pressure. The best part: the inserts are clear, so no one sees them and thinks you stuck odor-absorbers in your Louboutins.  And they fit comfortably in your shoes without crowding your toes like some other brands that I’ve tried.

I tried them in the same cursed pair of heels that sent me limping to the store (with a pair of emergency flats in my bag just in case) and I have to say–shut up!  Where have these been all my life!?  The cushions felt good, they do massage your feet as you walk and the extra padding at the parts of the foot that usually start to throb after the first coffee run also helped keep my feet from slipping, saving my heels from burns and blisters. Even after running around all day at the office, my feet were pain-free at quitting time.

Well ladies, Dr. Scholl’s has answered my prayers with the “For Her” line. “Incredibly comfortable insoles uniquely designed for women.”  In tons of different shapes too for any type of shoe you may own. Plus, the line also features products that helps with shoes that rub, pedicure tools, lots of different scrubs and creams (like a pumice foot scrub, which sounds fabulous) and items for those with more serious problems than just stupid shoe addiction (things like corns and bunions).

Next time I’m at CVS, I’ll be adding these babies to my shopping cart:  The Ball of the Foot Cushions which are inserts made of waves of cushioning, massaging gel. They  are said to stay firmly in place, yet they can be removed without damage to the shoe (Yay for that! I’ve ruined some shoes with lesser quality shoe inserts and it burned me up.) And the Heel Liners that are designed to prevent shoes from rubbing the sensitive heel area (because really, is there anything worse that a blister on your heel?)

Looks like I’ll be re-bounding with some of shoes that I kicked to the curb!

Have you tried Dr. Scholl’s “For Her” High Heel inserts?  What did you think? What products do you suggest for high heel comfort (wearing flats instead does not count!)?

  2. Love the review! However, I am curious as to whether or not you experienced foot sweat(ing) when using these gel inserts? Unlike other insoles on the market, these don’t include cloth covering - so does it also cause the dreaded foot smell?

    TIA

  3. (Sorry - I meant to include in the above posting) Have you heard/tried Foot Petals and if so, do you have an opinions? I am curious as to the Amazing Arches and/or the Tip Toes.

One last question, have you also come across: Smart Heels? http://www.sporkfashion.com/2007/06/07/smart-heels-a-smart-way-to-protect-your-shoes/

    TIA (again)
