What Does Your Shoe Closet Say About You?
Your closet gives out more clues about yourself than you think: it’s a small, private and personal space that doesn’t need to follow the “rules of appearance” all the other rooms are subjected to.
Because of this, your closet, like your favorite pair of shoes, can sometimes give glimpses of your soul.
A messy shoe closet in an otherwise clean house, for example, could be a sign of an extremely busy mother of three. While this is a pretty normal scenario, the same messy closet in a clean apartment of a single woman, could be an indication of something else entirely.
An article on Trendy Shoes Shop featured an article about enviable over-the-top celebrity shoe closets and I found myself looking not just at the rows and rows of pricey pumps but also at the way in which they were organized for insight into the stars’ personalities.
For instance, Paula Abdul has all of her shoes tagged and numbered so that she can quickly grab what she needs for trips and vacations. Such an obsessive type A trait seems at odds with her “uh oh, what is Paula going to do now?” public persona of late. And I was surprised at its somewhat utilitarian design given her penchant for wacky, tacky ensembles that are anything but wall flower-like. The puzzle is intriguing.
If I had a million dollars, I would indulge my Carrie Bradshaw fantasy and have a mammoth walk-in with rows of shoes displayed like an exclusive boutique, all organized by type and color with tags of what outfits to pair them with.
As it is, my organizational method ranges somewhere between neat rows of shoes that I rarely wear or actually forgotten that I own to pairs scattered like bread crumbs from a late-night sandwich trailing from the front door to the bedroom. Plus a hodge podge mountain of boots, sneakers and flip flops has taken up residence in the hall closet. Whereas some would consider this messy, I prefer to think of it as organized chaos.
According to a quiz that I can across on my online meanderings, having piles of things everywhere means I’m an “over-achiever” and my clutter chaos is an indication of a “free spirit.” Which sounds much better than “I am too tired at the end of the day to care where I put my shoes as long as I avoid stumbling over them in the middle of night on the way to the bathroom.” But as I have written about in a couple of past posts, I am reforming my disorganized shoe ways. And after reading the Trendy Shoes Shop article, I am inspired to try some of their shoe tips and give my own closet the celebrity treatment. Tarjay here I come!
