How to Disinfect Vintage and Second Hand Shoes
DC Diva is curious what you think about second-hand shoes. But have you ever considered how many people have tried on the new pair of shoes you just bought, especially when you buy from a discount store like Nordstrom Rack or Off Saks Fifth Avenue?
If you fall in love with a pair of vintage shoes, fear not. Just like your bowling rentals, vintage footwear can be easily disinfected.
1. Dust baking soda, any kind, on the insole. Leave overnight and dump out the next day. This will take care of any odd odors.
2. Wipe down foot bed with alcohol wipes or disinfectant wipes. Let dry.
3. An alternative to wipes is Lysol spray, or a similar disinfectant spray. Bowling lanes use this to disinfect bowling shoes.
4. When in doubt, replace the insole completely. Dr. Scholl’s has really stepped up the technology on their famous insoles. You no longer have to settle for big, ugly pads. They even make an open toe version.
