Starting/maintaining your collection
How do I start my collection, or add shoes to my collection?
You must be logged in to Fantastic Toe to start your collection, or add shoes to your collection. Once you’re logged in, click “my collection” in the gray navigation bar that spans the page, to display the home page of your shoe collection. Click “Add Shoe” to display the window where you will input all the information about this pair of shoes, and upload your photo.
Can I change the picture, or other information, about shoes I’ve already added?
Yes, it is simple to update any information, including the photo, about a shoe you’ve already added to your collection. First, you must be logged in, and on the home page for your collection (click “my collection” in the gray navigation bar that spans the page). Locate the picture of the shoe you’d like to edit, and click the “edit” button under the picture. This will display the window that contains all the information about this pair of shoes. Make your desired change, and click “Submit” to save the change.
On “my collection” home page, what determines which pair of shoes occupies the prominent spot?
You control which pair of shoes occupies the most prominent spot. When you add a new shoe, or edit an existing shoe, you can assign that pair to the most prominent spot by checking the “Make these my favorite shoes” box in the “Add/Edit Shoe” window.
If you have previously checked that box in another shoe’s record, you must edit that record and uncheck the box.
If you have not checked that box in any shoe’s record, the pair you uploaded most recently will occupy the most prominent spot.

What are “tags”?
Tags are labels or categories that apply to each pair of shoes in your collection, so you can organize your shoe collection in the way that makes sense to you. There are some pre-defined tags on Fantastic Toe, but you are not limited to using those. If they don’t meet your requirements, just make up others that fit your collection better.
How do I apply tags to shoes in my collection? Can I create my own tags?
To apply tags, you must be logged in. Once logged in, click “my collection” in the gray navigation bar that spans the site, to display the home page of your shoe collection. Locate the pair of shoes you’d like to tag, and click the “edit” button under the picture. You have two options for applying tags; you can use either or both:
- Select up to 10 of the pre-defined tags which are listed in the box labeled “select relevant tags (up to 10)”. You can select more than one at a time by pressing the “CTRL” button before clicking on the tag.
- Enter new tags –whatever you’d like, as long as you adhere to the Terms of Use of the site (in other words, no obscenity or other inappropriate terms) in the box to the right. Separate each new tag with a comma.
What determines the size of the tag?
The size of the tag is determined by how often you’ve applied the tag to shoes in your collection.
How do I name my collection, or change the existing name of my collection?
To change the name of your collection, you must be logged in. Once logged in, click “my profile” in the gray navigation bar that spans the site. In the page that displays, input the (new) name in the section labeled “Add/edit collection tagline”, and click “Submit” to save your changes.
How does the “just bought these” flag work?
Set the “just bought these” flag when you’re adding shoes to your collection that you’ve just bought. Doing so lets you easily find your newest shoes, and also makes it easy for all visitors to the site to see the new shoes which have been added to the entire Fantastic Toe collection. The “just bought these” flag expires 30 days after you set it.
How does the “got these on sale” flag work?
Set the “got these on sale” flag when you’re adding shoes to your collection that you got on sale. Doing so lets you easily find your sale shoes, and also makes it easy for all visitors to the site to see the sale shoes which have been added to the entire Fantastic Toe collection.
Is it possible for me to make public only a portion of my collection?
Yes. With Fantastic Toe, you have the power to catalog your entire shoe collection, and also the flexibility to control which shoes you wish to make viewable by visitors to the site. In other words, you can upload photos of all your shoes (including your Crocs), but only make public those that you wish to show off.
You control which shoes are viewable to the public on a shoe-by-shoe basis. When you add or edit a shoe, you have the option of checking a box labeled “viewable by public”. If you check that box, the shoe will be viewable (and rateable) by all visitors to that site. Leave that box unchecked and only you will be able to see the shoe, and the tags associated with that shoe.
Viewing/rating other members’ shoes and collections
How do the star ratings work for shoes?
When you view the home page of a collection, you will see that each pair of shoes in the collection has a set of stars below it. This is the shoe’s average star rating, that displays the average value of all the star ratings that other Fantastic Toe members have applied to the shoe. For example, if 3 members have rated the shoe, and the first rated it with 1 star, the second rated it with 3 stars, and the third rated it with 5 stars, the shoe’s average star rating would be 3 stars.
If you click the “view/rate” button beneath the photo of any shoe, you will have the opportunity to add your vote to the shoe’s average star rating. (You must be logged in to rate a shoe.) The window that displays will have a series of stars next to the label “rate these shoe”. If the stars are empty, it means that you have not yet rated this shoe; if the stars are filled-in, it means that you have previously rated this shoe with the displayed value. In either event, you can click on these stars to rate, or re-rate, the shoe. For example, to assign a 4-star rating, click the 4th star from the left. The window will automatically update with your star rating.
You will notice that the average star rating is also displayed toward the bottom of the “view/rate” window. This average value will update automatically to reflect the rating that you assigned the shoe.
Is there an easy way to remember which shoes I’ve rated with 5 stars?
Yes. Shoes that you’ve rated with 5 stars show up in your “my fantasy shoe collection” area on your collection home page. If you re-rate any of these shoes (for example, changing your rating from 5 stars to 4 stars), the shoe will move out of your fantasy shoe collection.
How do the star ratings work for collections?
When you view the home page of a collection, you will see a series of stars next to the collection name labeled “rate this collection”. Click on the appropriate star to rate the collection. (You must be logged in to rate a collection.) For example, to assign a 4-star rating, click the 4th star from the left.
Is there an easy way to remember which collections I’ve rated with 5 stars?
Yes. Collections that you’ve rated with 5 stars show up in your “my favorite collections” area on your “my collection” home page. If you re-rate any of these collections (for example, changing your rating from 5 stars to 4 stars), the collection will move out of your favorite collections.
What are “Shoe Stars”?
Shoe Stars (indicated by the icon) are members whose collections have been rated with 5 stars by a significant portion (generally about 1%) of the Fantastic Toe membership.
Which shoes get featured on the home page?
Shoes which have been rated with 5 stars by a significant portion of the Fantastic Toe membership (generally about 1%) are rotated at random through the home page spot.
