How do You Save Money for Shoes?
When I lived in Edinburgh, folks called an extra $20 beer money. I call it shoe money. So how do you get your extra money for shoes? Here are my strategies:
Odd Jobs: I am a firm believer in working for a little extra money. A friend of mine is a caterer, and a few hours helping her out on a Saturday means a nice pair of heels. Two Saturdays, and I’m ready to get a new pair of boots. I’ve also been known to shovel my neighbors’ driveways for $10. And if you’re really dedicated, pick up a few shifts at your favorite department store. You’ll get discounts.
Saving: It’s old fashioned, but it works. Squirrel away an extra $10 bucks here and there, and shoes are in your future. But never put saving for shoes ahead of more important things, like retirement.
Birthday Money: Yes, you’re probably not 10 anymore, but why not ask for money instead of a gift. Of course, the etiquette on this is important. Only volunteer money as an option with friends and family who ask what you want. Never demand money as a gift. Gift certificate’s also work, but be specific about where you want to shop.
Credit Card Points: My credit card has no annual fee, and after a few months of charging groceries, I earn enough points for a gift card.
