Bargain Tip: Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish. While I’ll never pay more than $30 for a pair of kicky bar-stool heels (thanks, Smarter.com!), I am a firm believer in plunking down a good chunk of change on a solid pair of everyday shoes.
Let’s take as a lesson in pound foolishness the high-heeled boots pictured above. I got them for a smooth $60. I needed a pair of winter boots and didn’t have a lot of money. I should have known better. That $60 bucks now means I have to buy a new pair of go-to winter footwear because after a mere 6 months, the cheap boots are already falling apart. And I didn’t even wear them in summer!

My supposed $60 shoe steal now means I have to plunk down at least another $150 for a pair of decent boots, making my total cost for new winter boots $210. Definitely not a deal.

The lesson? Buy cheap shoes wisely and spend a little extra for quality shoes that will last more than one season.
