Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Deal of the Day

GOOP: Seen GOOP? It’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s  newsletter. But she’s hocking some of her duds on eBay for charity. The shoes are so far at good prices and are size 8.5/9. The Proenza shoes are pretty awesome. I, unfortunately, wear a size 8 and would swim in an 8.5.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Rocking some fabulous heels Saturday night, I insisted my boyfriend drive me the short mile to our favorite night spot. He balked, and I asked why he didn’t try walking a mile in my heels. Now he can, and without any threat to his masculinity thanks to the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes project, an organization protesting violence against women.

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes project came to my attention through a story about men at Utah State University walking a mile in heels to offer support in the fight against violence. The idea made me giddy.

First, I strongly believe that violence against women is not just a female issue. It’s a matter of changing the attitudes of everyone in society towards supporting justice and peace for all.

Second, the idea of men walking in heels makes me laugh. And laughter, as Jon Stewart teaches us, is a powerful political tool.  Take a distinctly feminine item, put it on a man, and you’ve made a strong statement about how dividing the issue between genders is laughable.
